Volunteering in the New Forest with the NPA is a great way to meet people, get active, and learn new skills.
About
The New Forest NPA’s volunteer team leads people on practical tasks in the National Park supporting improvements for wildlife, heritage, and communities. These can range from conservation tasks such as vegetation and invasive species management to improving access on footpaths and at various sites through repairs, maintenance, and monitoring. NPA volunteers may also support other teams across the Authority including rangers and educators, as well as attend events across the Forest and in surrounding areas.
Volunteer tasks with the New Forest NPA support and work alongside partners in and around the Forest including Forestry England, the RSPB, and the Countryside Education Trust.
Activities available
- Volunteer tasks and events with the New Forest NPA vary by season, specific partners working with the NPA, and the events and projects taking place. Common tasks for volunteers include:
- Clearing vegetation
- Supporting rangers and other NPA teams e.g. on guided walks
- Litter picking
- Attending and supporting at events
- Tree and hedge planting
- Heathland restoration
What New Forest NPA volunteers can expect
- People volunteering with the New Forest NPA will develop new skills, meet new people, enjoy practical green and outdoor skills, protect internationally important wildlife and heritage, and support local communities. New Forest NPA volunteers may have the chance to join various training opportunities including surveying for wildlife and on safely using power tools like brushcutters and hedgetrimmers.
Where sessions take place
- Volunteer sessions with the New Forest NPA can be anywhere in the National Park or surrounding areas, depending in individual session or event requirements. Session details will be available to registered volunteers when it is available allowing them to book onto tasks that suit their needs and interests.
